Ranger Kambale Mulondi, who was shot in his leg whilst patrolling in Tshiaberimu, is positively recovering. Although the bullet hole has completely healed, he is feeling constant pain despite the medicine taken daily.

The doctor has said he has got another 6 months of recovery, but Kambale is confident he will be back in service late October. Although he is getting monthly financial support from ZSL, school term has started this week, and Kambale has got a big family, so he needs to pay for school fees for 6 out of his 8 children.

Thanks for your donations, WildlifeDirect has been able to support Kambale and his family financially since August 1st until he is fully recovered. This is with donation money.

Guys here is one reply I received back from one of my emails…..

Dear Annie,

The Great Apes Survival Project Partnership is in contact with our partners on the ground and we are following the recent development in the Democratic Republic of the Congo with great concern. We are currently assessing different options on how UNEP can help ICCN (the Congolese nature conservation agency) in managing this crisis. There is no easy solution since it has become a large-scale political crisis. If you are interested in some further information please visit the following webpages:

Many thanks for your interest in gorilla conservation.
Best regards,

Good to know Kambale is getting better. I’m also glad to learn that his kids are able to go to school. I hope they don’t live near all the fighting.

It is good news that Kambale is steadily recovering. I am sure that his family is very relieved. Thank you for letting us know this and sharing some pictures. Continued good wishes, Kambale. Lisa, California
